Sadly, nursing home
abuse has become increasingly more prevalent in recent years. It is a fact
that nursing home abuse affects all of us. Whether it may be a friend,
family member, or even yourself, nursing home abuse has become commonplace
in an industry that is supposed to care for our loved ones.
Our laws protect
against nursing home injury. The law defines abuse as any form of physical,
cognitive, psychosocial, or financial harm that a nursing home resident
suffers. In the majority of cases, a nursing home injury is preventable.
Some signs that a
resident is suffering from malpractice, or nursing home neglect, are seen in
cases with bed or pressure sores, infections, dehydration, malnutrition,
fractures, dislocations, slip and fall accidents, medication errors,
inappropriate physical or chemical restraint, unhygienic living conditions,
negligent supervision, inadequate staffing or training, financial
exploitation, and any other form of physical, emotional, or mental abuse or
neglect.
