Ford Safety Defect Recall Lawyers Defend Victims’ Rights

Ford safety defect recall lawyersAutomakers have recalled more vehicles in the US in 2014 than any year on record, and there are still six months left to add to the record-breaking total.

On July 8, Ford entered the recall spree by announcing six separate recalls totaling 100,610 vehicles in North America. There have been no injuries, accidents, or fires yet reported, Ford said. But what is concerning Ford owners now is the immediate depreciation in the resale value of their cars due to being labelled as a “recalled vehicle.”

The Ford safety defect recall lawyers at Edelman, Krasin, and Jaye (EKJ) are now reviewing claims in the New York area for financial compensation for resale value lost by the Ford recalls as well as any increased maintenance or repair costs not covered by the recall.

If you feel your vehicle has lost resale value due to the Ford recall, call 1-800-469-7429 to schedule a free case review with one of our skilled product liability attorneys.

Claims reveal serious Ford safety defects

The largest recall, of 92,022 vehicles, affects the 2013-2014 Ford Taurus, the Lincoln MKS and Police Interceptor sedans, the 2013-2014 Ford Flex and Lincoln MKT crossovers, the 2012-2014 Edge crossover, and the 2014 Lincoln MKX crossover.

A part of the axle in these vehicles, called a halfshaft, is not properly seated in place and may disengage over time, rendering the vehicle inoperable. An equally dangerous possibility is that the vehicles are at risk of rolling unexpectedly if they are parked without the parking brake on.

Five other Ford vehicle categories make up the remaining approximately 8000 recalled vehicles with defects ranging from electrical system defects that may cause a fire to faulty brake calipers that could cause brake failure and fuel tank defects also possibly resulting in a fire.

Ford recall settlement in 2013 cost the carmaker $17.5M

Ford was given a maximum fine of $17.35 million in 2013 to settle a dispute over allegations that Ford delayed a safety recall. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration alleged that in May of 2011, Ford knew about a safety defect in Escape SUVs from the 2001 to 2004 model years. Yet the company didn’t recall the vehicles until July of 2012.

Ford said it paid the fine to avoid a lengthy dispute with the federal agency. The carmaker recalled nearly 485,000 Escapes with V-6 engines to fix sticking gas pedals that could cause crashes.

Added recalls raise doubts about all manufacturers

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration lists U.S. recalls for 37.5 million cars this year. General Motors Co. (GM) accounts for about two-thirds of the total mainly over recalls for faulty ignition switches. GM’s vehicle recalls this year to date number 29 million, surpassing the 22 million recalled by all automakers last year.

The added ignition switch recalls raise questions about the safety of the switches in cars made by all manufacturers. On June 18, NHTSA opened two investigations of Chrysler minivans and SUVs as part of a widening inquiry into air bag and ignition switch problems across the U.S. auto industry.

The lawyers at EKJ are prepared to vigorously defend your claims for compensation regardless of the manufacturer whether it be for diminished resale value of your car due to the recalls or personal injury or wrongful death caused by a safety defect.
