Long Island is no stranger to car accidents, but a rash of fatal crashes in recent days may be keeping Long Island car accident lawyers even busier than usual. Sadly, many of the victims in these accidents have been very young adults who had their lives taken too soon behind the wheel of a car. A number of factors can be attributed to this relatively new slew of vehicle accidents.
October car accidents
On October 24, a man was killed in North Lindhurst when his vehicle struck another. Karim Abouedlfadl, 26, was driving a Honda Civic on Bellwood Avenue when he struck a Ford Fusion driven by Jennifer Ginexi. According to CBS New York, Abouedlfadl was taken to Nassau University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Ginexi was also injured in the crash, but was reported to have non-life threatening injuries. She was treated at Good Samaritan Hospital.
Just five days later, a 21-year-old driver was killed while waiting for a tow truck on Sunrise Highway in Bayshore. ABC 7 reported that Jessica Ortiz was waiting for the tow when another vehicle slammed into hers. The driver of that vehicle, Raymond Reinhardt, was taken to Southside Hospital after the accident, where he was listed in critical but stable condition.
November collisions in Long Island claim lives
On November 1, a 19-year-old was killed in a single vehicle crash in Wheatley Heights. According to News 12 Long Island, Carla Flores was pronounced dead at the scene after the Chevrolet Camaro she was riding in veered off the road and into a wooded area. Flores was a passenger of that vehicle at the time of the crash.
Another fatal crash that took the lives of two victims occurred November 3 in Elmont. Police were investigating an argument between a man and woman in a green Dodge Caravan when the vehicle suddenly backed into the police car and sped away. After fleeing the scene, the vehicle was seen by other police officers speeding on the Hempstead Turnpike when it crashed into another car. Both the driver and passenger of the minivan were pronounced dead at the scene.
Finally, two teenage men were killed in a single-car crash on the Southern State Parkway on November 11. The Long Island Press reports that Joseph Kelly and Justin Johnson, both 19, appeared to have been driving at excessive speeds when their car crashed into the Franklin Avenue overpass. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.
